Why this exists
If somebody ever challenges whether a visitor agreed, a line in a database is only as good as the trust in whoever runs the database. So every record is signed at the moment it is written, using a method anybody can check independently.
That means you can prove a record is genuine and unaltered even if we are not around to vouch for it.
How to check one
Open Reports for the site and find the record.
You see what was chosen, what the visitor was shown, and when.
Export it.
Follow the verification steps on our Developers page, which fetch our public keys and check the signature.
The check confirms the record has not been altered.
One honest limitation
Records created before signing was introduced are permanently unsigned, and are labelled that way. We do not sign them after the event, because adding a signature to an old record is exactly the thing this system exists to rule out.
